WIFVNE Member Spotlight: Aaliyah Miller
Filmmaker, Writer and Advocate for Underrepresented Stories
This Womens' History Month, we celebrate WIFVNE Member Aaliyah Miller, a filmmaker committed to sharing diverse and powerful stories.
"StoriesMatter. And I’m honored to be a storyteller. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share stories across different mediums, reaching diverse audiences in meaningful ways. But my favorite part of the storytelling process? Listening. It all begins with a conversation—learning, understanding, and truly hearing someone’s experiences. That’s where the most powerful stories come to life."
Her documentary I AM: Muslim/American has been officially selected at multiple international film festivals and won several awards, including:
• Best Religious Theme Film and Best Supporting Actress (Sidra Syed & Porsche Edmundson) at Brampton International Nollywood Film Festival
• Best Doc & Black Filmmaker - Canada/USA Award from International Black & Diversity Film Festival
• Awards of Recognition as an African American Filmmaker, Islamic Filmmaker, Women Filmmaker and for Womens' Theme from the Accolade Global Film Competition.
Aaliyah’s Advice to Female Filmmakers:
"The story you want to tell matters, so tell it. There will be many obstacles, but that shouldn't stop you. Follow you passion and your gut. There are individuals, especially women, who have been in your shoes. There is a network to help you. Be willing to ask and show up to work."
